Religion isn’t a way of preventing ups and downs in life! It is a way to make sense of things; Find the balance between all the binary oppositions that live within you!
Even today there is this common thought about this singular form of Buddhism which is filled with stereotypical superimposed imagery. An ideology of the West superimposed on the East. This makes it hard to explain in a few words what my practice within the SGI (Soka Gakkai International) means to me.
Soka Gakkai is a humanistic religious organization. Its emphasis lies on cultivating our own Buddha nature and finding it in all other people around us. Opposed to Hinayana Buddhism it promulgates a very active approach to our daily life problems and our earthly desires.
SGI has been working together with many people worldwide on issues that concern all of us such as world peace, the environment and equal rights for all. It is therefore more than a religion. It is a study of dedication and happiness. It is a practice of dialogue. Though there are about 190 countries in which SGI is active the organization promotes bottom up initiatives and local activities! Attending discussion meetings within your local chapter and appropriating the daily practice in daily life instead of using religion as a cave in which you can hide.
I am not one to tell other people what is good for them. But withholding information on what you know can be a good tool for people to enhance their happiness and the happiness of their environment would be silly too. I therefore invite you to take a look at the following sites.
